Viren Bhagat is one of the most sought-after jewelers in the world, well-known among the international coterie of collectors and connoisseurs. Mumbai-based, fourth generation jeweler and designer, Viren worked with his father, selling mostly traditional pieces. Afterwards, taking up the reins of the business in 1991, he knew he wanted to do things differently. Always seeking perfection and precision, Viren Bhagat has excelled at the art of making jewellery, transforming every inspiration into a unique masterpiece.

He felt the need to express himself through his own creations, and instinctively, over the years, has developped his own distinctive, signature style: self-confident, feminine jewels that mix conventional and contemporary with individuality. Viren Bhagat reinterpreted so called Deco-Saracenic style-fusion of Art Deco with Hindu and Islamic aesthetics mainly used in architecture, in his manner, applying it to jewelry. Alongside his two brothers, Bharat and Rajan, who look after the company’s finances and sales and administration respectively, Viren merging Indian traditions, Mughal aesthetics and Art Deco exquisite refinement, has created sophisticated jewellery adornments of nonpareil magnificence, painstakingly made by highly skilled craftsmen.

Bhagat works what he calls a “limited palette” of diamonds, rubies emeralds, sapphires, spinels and natural pearls. He uses platinum for his settings, because its density allows the settings to be minimalised to the point of invisibility, which not only makes the stones more prominent but also creates the illusion that they are seemingly suspended, weightless, in space. As Bhagat emphasizes, the metal “evaporates” and the forms of the stones remain unobscured.
