When you look at Scavia jewelry, you get surprised because it is something you have never seen before: innovative, understated, refined pieces which allow you to express emotions, make you joyful. First is all about an idea, followed by the technical perfection required to make it and lastly the most extraordinary materials to bring it to life. Inspite of creating one-of-a-kind chef-d’ouvres by means of rare natural gems, catching-edge design, demonstrating very complicated, impeccable handwork, sometimes unique detachable, transformable jewels, Fulvio Maria Scavia, the CEO and the designer in chief of the Maison Scavia is undoubtedly convinced that his jewels are to be worn, he creates awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping masterpieces to make clients be wondered, admired, delighted. Scavia jewels have a glamourous style in which creativity and timelessness come together in perfect harmony. In my exclusive interview made at the gorgeous boutique in Milan find out more about the wondrous world of high end jewellery signed by Scavia.

L.C.: When and how the Maison Scavia was founded?

F.M.S.:  Scavia was founded by my grandfather Domenico, who on the early 20th century, exactly in 1911 opened the workshop, by transferring from Valenza to Milan. He was a fabricant and made jewels for important names in Italy and Paris. He was a very creative person, who loved working by hands creating amazing pieces. After the World War II the workshop was destroyed, my mother Sara headed the company by opening the boutique on XXII Marzo street after the death of my grandfather. I entered the family business at an early age, being involved in every aspect of jewellery making, and I started to work next to my mother. Since then I always create jewellery and my son Alessandro continues our family affair expanding it all over the world.

L.C.: What are the distinguishing traits of Scavia jewels?

F.M.S.: Three things make us special which distinguish us from the others: innovation in the design, a “surprise”, something that you have never seen before, the technical perfection, because my jewels are made in the best way, possible way that you can make jewellery now, and joyful-pleasure to wear them. My jewellery is not for the safe. It is for the women who wear them on. So, even when we make important pieces, very expensive jewels, they are wearable in the sense that they are a little bit understated, refined and when you wear them you have to feel well.

L.C.: What are your sources of inspiration to create one-off jewels?

F.M.S.: My sources of inspiration are the world of women, the sensitivity and romanticism. I like to transfer into a piece of jewelry main traits in a woman’s soul, her needs, innermost desires.

L.C.: What are your favourite gems?

F.M.S.: Best investment is best quality gems, it means that our company rigorously use high quality gems could it be precious ones-emeralds, rubies, sapphires, diamonds or semiprecious. We work with blue tourmalines-Paraiba(one of my favourite gems, which are protagonists of some of our important pieces), with rare gems like rhodochrosite, imperial topaz, sphene, hyaline quartz, amber, aquamarine, sphalerite(one of our latest creations with this unique gem) and many others. Our clients appreciate us due to uniqueness of design, the use of rare gems, exceptional workmanship.

L.C.: Which markets do you work in? What startegy do you use for different markets?

F.M.S.: Our customers are from Japan, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Middle East, Kazakhstan, Azerbaidjan, European countries, USA, Russia. We are well presented all over the world by means of our retail partners and in some countries we have our own boutiques. We are always eager to conquer new markets which motivate us to work hard to achieve our goals.

L.C.: Who are your clients? Please, describe them.

F.M.S: We have clients from Asia, Middle East, USA, European countries, Russia. And everywhere we have the same target of clients. What does it mean? Our ladies have to be clever, refined, educated and wealthy because if you have no money you can’t buy our jewels. But you need all these things together. If you are rich and you have no esthetic culture, you can’t be a customer of Scavia. You need to understand what we are doing and to share, in this case you are a Scavia customer.

L.C.: Your latest creation.

F.M.S. : My latest creation is a diamond bracelet. Very unique piece. When you see it first, you have to “digest” it, look at it, put it on your hand. It is a new technology, the diamonds are pierced in the pavilion and held in the platinum mesh. There are 40 cts of diamonds, it’s a very practical thing, and you can wear it on. It is intended for a rich woman who can spend money, who wants to use her jewels for enjoying them, wearing them on.

L.C.: What are some changes you hope to see in the jewellery industry in the nearest future?

F.M.S.: My conviction is that nowadays the jewel is either wearable, usable or becomes an object that is unsaleable so we must try to make beautiful things, interesting but wearable. Today nobody buys a jewel to hoard, instead a woman buys a jewel a bit like a dress, maybe even expensive to put it on. It must give pleasure to a wearer.

L.C.: Three key words that define Scavia jewels.

F.M.S.: Innovation, technical perfection, joy(emotions)
