Chimento Gioiellieri has enjoyed a highly prestigious position in the field of luxury jewellery for over fifty years.
The brand undoubtedly stands out among other names in the fine jewellery industry. Chimento creations are characterized by the excellent craftsmanship, innovation, creativity, superior quality that made of them one of the most successful jewellery brands well known in Italy and worldwide. Chimento jewels are made of 18kt gold and diamonds for the high-end collections, while semi-precious stones are used to create jewelry in line with the latest fashion trends. In our interview with Federica Chimento , president of Chimento Gioiellieri, made at Vicenza Oro Show, you will find out about the authentic value and real soul of jewellery signed by Chimento.
L.C.: When and how the brand Chimento was born?
F.C.: Chimento was born more than fifty years ago, in 1964. My father Adriano Chimento, the founder of the company, started in the garage of his home, manufacturing the first products, personally selling them and then reinvesting little by little all the revenues into the business. Today, my brother Mario and I, being the second generation to carry on the family business, run Chimento.
L.C.: What are your roles in the company?
F.C.: My brother Mario is based in Italy. He is the General Director of Chimento Gioiellieri. He is in charge with the development of the Chimento brand in Italy, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Japan. I have focused more on the Americas: Canada, United States, Central and South America. I’m based in Miami from where I manage the distribution of the Chimento brand in the Americas.
L.C.: Where does the inspiration come to create jewels by Chimento?
F.C.: Chimento has always been and will continue to be a product to be worn every day. We like to define ourselves as the “pret-a-porter” of jewelry. Our jewelry is meant to be worn every day as an accessory, not only in special occasions. We like to design and manufacture ergonomic and versatile jewels; something you can wear in different ways (as you will see later in some of our collections), or that may be combined together. Some of our bracelets, for example, can be worn alone or two or three at the same time.
L.C.: Describe the Chimento style.
F.C.: Chimento style is definitely classic with a contemporary twist. We like to design jewelry that can be worn today and be handed down to the next generation. Italian style that is classic and lasts over time.
L.C.: What are your favourite stones? Why?
F.C.: When we use precious stones the choice is almost always diamonds. Much of our production is in 18K in the three colors of gold: yellow, white and rose. If we need to add stones, we definitely prefer diamonds. They are very classic, never go out of style and complement perfectly our designs.
L.C.: Please list three important factors you consider when designing a jewel.
F.C.: First of all, staying true to our vision: jewelry to wear every day. Chimento is synonym of comfortable jewelry to wear on a daily basis. Secondly, we design jewelry that does not last two or three years, but lasts over time. Lastly, and most importantly: quality. A “must” that we never compromise in our pieces. Versatility is also important: our clasps for example are designed in such a way that all of them are integrated in the jewelry design and in many cases allow the wearer to use the same piece of jewelry in many different ways
L.C.: Describe the woman wearing Chimento jewels.
F.C.: A modern and independent woman, who loves to accessorize. Our jewelry, because of its versatility, is perfect for travelling. Many of our styles can be used in different ways, so it is not necessary to bring your entire jewelry wardrobe. That’s pretty much how we like to see the Chimento woman.
L.C.: What according you does contribute to your success?
F.C.: The constancy, the seriousness, the quality of the product, the being faithful to yourself. Despite the various fashions we continue to maintain our identity of product and I would say basically also the seriousness which is behind the Chimento brand. We like to stay serious people as the Americans say “stand behind the product ”.
L.C.: Three key words that define Chimento jewels?
F.C.: Classic, versatile, modern but without excess.
L.C.: Is jewellery more than just an adornment for a modern woman?
F.C.: I like to think of jewelry as an accessory, and with that in mind, jewelry is definitely an adornment. Without a doubt, a beautiful jewel helps to complete a stylish look in a woman.
